Fundraising

Now I have got my head around the fact I am going to embark on my epic around the world adventure it’s time to get my fundraising pages underway. I am hoping to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice @ Home. This is an amazing service giving patients far more choice and control  about the  care they receive and where they receive that care. Given the choice, most people would like to spend their final days in a place where they feel most comfortable and that place is  HOME. However for most people this is just not possible due to limited resources, this can result in unwanted admissions to a busy hospital ward. The Hospice @Home team is made up of experienced specialist nurses and highly trained healthcare assistants, who can offer hands on practical and nursing support to patients and their families.  I am setting my target at a eye popping £40,000 but thats only a £1 per mile so should be a piece of cake to raise 🙂 hospice-at-home-donate-here

I am also supporting UNICEF which is the chosen charity for the whole race, more information on Unicef in a later blog post.

To enable me to complete my epic adventure I am also hoping to raise some personal sponsorship. Its definitely not a cheap ‘do’ this sailing malarky, loads of really specialised clothing to protect me from the elements and an insurance policy to cover repatriation, medical expenses and death 😦 I am hoping not to need to call on that part but it all needs to be in place before I can even train. I have saved, borrowed and fundraised to cover my berth fee, it really is a huge commitment financially as well as emotionally. There is worldwide media coverage with over 150 countries screening the race. I have the opportunity to host sponsors onboard to get a taste of how the crew will literally be living in a tiny shared space. I will be able to credit all my sponsors as I visit each of the ports on my way around the globe. If you feel that you would like to help me realise my dream and now do it you can sponsor me at www.gofundme.com/heathers-race-around-the-world

Tomorrow is the first day of training, my bag is packed and  I am as ready as I will ever be.

BRING IT ON !
